The Zürich holiday that marks the end of the Winter. A Parade of the Guilds passes through most of the larger streets in Zürich, culminating in the burning of the effigy Böögg which symbolises winter. If it takes a long time, the winter is strong and the summer will be a bad one.
The weather was bad, and the day that was supposed to symbolize the end of winter felt more like winter than the previous week did. It was cold, it rained a lot and was very windy.
Despite a stubborn resistance of more than 20 minutes, Böögg eventually succumbed to the heat, and exploded to huge celebrations from the crowd. Tiny hailstones fell afterwards during the barbecue to celebrate the coming of Spring. We’ve definitely not seen the last of this Winter yet!
